How is leave encashment calculated at exit?
On the earned leave balance, using the last drawn wage. Casual and sick leave normally lapse and are not encashed, which is why the three leave types have to be tracked separately rather than as one pool. Earned leave accrues against days worked and carries forward to a state specific cap, so the balance is a real liability on the books.
Getting the accrual rate wrong makes the settlement wrong. The rate comes from the state Shops and Establishments Act, not from a national rule.
Does a small company have to pay gratuity?
