Karnataka's documented strength runs from Bengaluru's electronics base straight through to a genuinely large, family run coffee economy further south, two very different kinds of employer on the same state page.
The largest registered MSME base of any district covered on this site, per the district's 2016 profile.
Split roughly evenly between Arabica and Robusta, per the Coffee Board's own figures.
About 94 percent run under ten acres, a largely family run economy rather than a corporate one.
The Coffee Board itself describes this as a modelled estimate of permanent and casual labour, not a payroll count, worth stating carefully rather than as a precise figure.
Registers establishments under the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act.

Karnataka Commercial TaxesThe state's single window for MSME registration, incentives and clearances.
Karnataka Udyog MitraTrade licence and property tax matters for establishments inside Bengaluru city limits.
BBMPConfirm this before you rely on it. Bengaluru Urban's MSME figures come from its 2016 district profile. The coffee figures come from the Coffee Board of India's own published statistics, a national body rather than a state one, though the crop is concentrated in Karnataka's own coffee growing districts. Enough to pay 15 days of wages for every completed year of service for every employee who will cross five years. For a growing company that number gets large quietly, because it is driven by the basic pay of long serving people rather than by headcount.
Since 21 November 2025 there is a second check on the wage base. Where allowances excluded from wages exceed half of total remuneration, the excess is added back. A salary structure that kept basic pay thin to hold the liability down no longer does so.
Dates of employment, the designation or designations held, and a neutral line on the work. What it should not carry is anything that reads as an adverse comment, because an experience letter is a document the person will show for years and a grudge written into it has a long life.
Where performance was genuinely a problem, that belongs in the internal record and in the separation process, not in the letter a former employee hands to a recruiter in Karnataka.
Permanent account number, Aadhaar, bank details, the universal account number if the person has worked before, educational and previous employment proof, nominee details for provident fund and gratuity, and the signed appointment letter. Add the previous employer income declaration where the person joins mid year, because the tax deduction for the rest of the year depends on it.
Collecting these on day one takes twenty minutes. Collecting them in June, when Form 16 is being prepared, takes weeks.
Basic pay large enough that provident fund and gratuity are calculated on a realistic base, house rent allowance sized to the city, and a residual allowance that absorbs the rest. Since 21 November 2025 there is a further check under the labour codes: where excluded allowances exceed half of total remuneration, the excess is added back into wages for statutory purposes. A structure built to keep basic thin no longer achieves anything.
Getting this right once, at the company level, is worth more than tuning it per employee.
Within 30 days of it becoming payable, under the Payment of Gratuity Act. That is a separate timeline from final wages, which the Code on Wages requires within two working days of the last day.
