The RBI publishes the holiday list under the Negotiable Instruments Act state by state, usually in December of the previous year. For 2027 expect it in December 2026. Until then the dates here follow the Central Government DoPT order of 16 July 2026 and the fixed state days.
Which 2027 bank holidays fall on a second or fourth Saturday or a Sunday?
Dussehra (9 October) is a second Saturday and Christmas (25 December) is a fourth Saturday, so banks are shut anyway. Independence Day (15 August), Guru Nanak Jayanti (14 November) and Onam (12 September) fall on Sundays. Gandhi Jayanti (2 October) and May Day (1 May) fall on first Saturdays, which are normally working days.
Do Islamic festival dates move?
Yes. Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Muharram and Milad-un-Nabi depend on moon sighting and can shift by a day or two from the dates notified.
Are all Saturdays bank working days?
No. Banks close on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The first, third and fifth Saturdays are working days unless a holiday is notified. In 2027, January, May, July and October each have a fifth Saturday.
