Export and domestic garment units, many mid sized, concentrated in the city's southern industrial belt.
Component and precision engineering units feeding the wider Karnataka auto and machine tool base.

Employment and unit count figures will have moved since, and no newer official recount was found. Office addresses and contact details can change on a notification you will not see. April, aligned to the financial year, is the most common cycle, with a smaller number running in October or on the employee joining anniversary. The cycle matters less than the consistency. A company in Karnataka that revises salaries when people ask, rather than on a cycle, ends up with pay that reflects who negotiated hardest.
Whatever the cycle, the letter should be issued before the revised salary appears in the bank account, not after.
Professional tax, where the state levies it, capped at 2,500 rupees a year by Article 276 of the Constitution. The labour welfare fund contribution, where the state runs one. Both are small, both are state specific, and both are easy to miss when a company opens its first office outside its home state.
Neither is difficult once it is on the calendar. The failure mode is not complexity, it is forgetting that the rule changed at the border.
Because days paid drives everything below it. Loss of pay reduces gross wages, which reduces the employee state insurance contribution, and reduces basic pay, which reduces the provident fund contribution. A payslip built before attendance is final has to be reissued, and a contribution return built on it has to be corrected.
For a company in Bangalore the sequence is fixed: close attendance, apply approved leave, then run payroll. Reversing those steps is the usual reason a month gets reworked.
After five years of continuous service with the same employer, calculated as last drawn wages multiplied by 15, multiplied by completed years, divided by 26. A final part year above six months counts as a full year. The amount is capped at 20 lakh rupees.
Three situations skip the five year rule. Death and permanent disablement pay out at any tenure. A fixed term employee engaged directly becomes eligible after one year, on a proportionate basis. Contract labour supplied through a contractor is the contractor liability rather than yours.
It happens often and it causes trouble. Without a letter there is no record of the effective date or the revised breakup, so the next revision, the gratuity base and the settlement all start from a number nobody can evidence.
