Maharashtra's two largest industrial districts run on genuinely different models, Mumbai's large scale corporate base against Pune's engineering and auto clusters, and both carry real government figures rather than reputation alone.

MIDCConfirm this before you rely on it. Mumbai's figures are current to March 2012 and Pune's district profile is similarly dated, no newer official recount was found for either. Claims that Mumbai generates a large share of India's GDP or industrial output appear in its own profile's general narrative without a cited survey, so we have not repeated those as verified statistics. The four labour codes came into force on 21 November 2025. The change small employers feel first is the two working day deadline for final wages under section 17(2) of the Code on Wages, which replaced settlement practices that ran to 30 or 45 days.
The second is the definition of wages. Where allowances excluded from wages exceed half of total remuneration, the excess is added back for statutory purposes, so salary structures built to keep basic pay thin no longer reduce provident fund or gratuity.
The employer estimates the employee annual income, applies the regime the employee has chosen, allows the exemptions and deductions that have been declared, and spreads the resulting tax across the remaining months of the year. Declarations change during the year, so the monthly deduction changes with them.
That is why take home pay can move without any salary revision, and why the last quarter often carries a heavier deduction than the first.
Between 15 and 90 days is the normal range in India, with 30 days the most common for the sort of company this page is written for. Longer notice looks protective and often is not, because a person who has decided to leave is rarely productive for three months.
The clause should bind both sides for the same length. A notice period that applies only to the employee is the first thing an adjudicator will pick at.
Yes, if they worked at least thirty days in the accounting year and were otherwise eligible. The bonus is proportionate to the days worked. Forgetting this is a common gap in full and final settlements, because the settlement is usually prepared months before the bonus is declared.
The practical fix is to flag eligible leavers at exit so the amount is paid when the bonus is declared rather than missed.
The existing Acts and rules continue in force while the codes settle in, and the government transition note says so. The practical answer for a small employer is to follow the state numbers today and expect them to move toward the codes over time.
